The Royal Armouries – Armouries Drive, Leeds, LS10 1LT

Housing one of the most extensive collections of war memorabilia, weapons and artefacts from British history, The Royal Armouries is almost worthy of an entire day’s visit, but it is possible to get a real flavour of what’s on offer on a whistle stop tour. Featuring six themed galleries, the museum allows you to see medieval tournament re-enactments, explore the Oriental Gallery, learn about self-defence, or reflect on the legacy of war in the ‘Peace – Farewell to Arms’ exhibition.

Leeds Corn Exchange – Call Lane, Leeds, LS1 7BR

Victorian Grade 1 listed building, the Corn Exchange, is a must see for the shopper looking for something a little different from the usual high-street brands. This beautiful circular building is home to dozens of independent retailers and cafés offering everything from quirky clothes and handmade jewellery to quaint gift shops and tattoo parlours! Grab your smartphone for a photo too – it really is a unique piece of architecture!

Leeds Owl Trail – City Centre

Leeds coat of arms features two owls, but what you may not know is that there are owls hidden in plain sight all over the city. Download the Owl Trail map from www.leedsowltrail.com for 50p and spend an hour walking around the city trying to find them. It’s a great way to explore Leeds and keep the kids amused on your day out.

Henry Moore Institute – 74 The Headrow, Leeds, LS1 3AH

Yorkshireman Henry Moore was one of the most famous and respected sculptors in the world during his lifetime, and the Henry Moore Institute does a great job of keeping his legacy alive. Featuring exhibitions from sculptors from across the world, the institute also offers local artists the opportunity to showcase their work in this internationally acclaimed gallery.
