Vegetarian restaurants in Leeds

When people think about vegetarian restaurants in Leeds, Hansa’s is usually the first one that springs to mind. But over recent years, more vegan and vegetarian eateries have popped up in and around the city centre, plus there are plenty of non-specifically veggie restaurants and cafes that have an extensive choice for our meat-averse friends.

Here are our top picks (in no particular order).

Cafes and restaurants that cater for vegetarians and vegans

  1. Global Tribe Cafe – this lovely little cafe also caters for many other dietary needs, including gluten, lacto and ovo-free. The staff are great at checking ingredients with customers and the prices for their British veggie/vegan treats are very reasonable indeed.
  2. Roots and Fruits – right in the heart of Leeds, this vegetarian cafe also has lots of choice for vegans. A mixture of hearty English staples and Mexican spice ensures that there’s a good option for different palates too. Their all-day breakfast is a firm favourite with visitors.
  3. Little Tokyo – if you’re a fan of Japanese flavours, while this isn’t one of the dedicated vegetarian restaurants in Leeds, is still a firm favourite. Its lovely setting (such as in indoor Koi pond) and very reasonable prices are just one reason – the array and quality of veggie friendly dishes, and dishes such as ‘vegan duck’ on the menu are definitely the main appeal! It’s tucked away just behind House of Fraser.
  4. Chaophraya – Thai food at its best, and another veggie friendly restaurant serving delicious food at great prices. The menu is massive, with loads of veggie-specific dishes and many more that can be adapted. It’s beautifully decorated too, making a lovely venue for a celebration or romantic meal.
  5. Pizza Express – you may mock, but Pizza Express offers a good range of vegetarian choices and they even do a cheese-free pizza! They have a low calorie, healthier range plus they’re constantly dishing out special offers, making for a really good lunch or dinner at crazy prices.

These are our top picks of cafes and vegetarian restaurants in Leeds, but you could also look out for Bondobust, a newcomer to the Leeds scene – a hipster bar serving Indian street food, many of which are veggie-friendly. The Aagrah also has a good choice for non-meat eaters, and Humpit in the Corn Exchange is worth a visit if you’re looking for a vegan snack while you’re out shopping.

Don’t forget that we’re just a short walk from all of these city centre favourites, so if you want cheap parking in Leeds while you explore some of these suggestions, come see us on Trafalgar Street.
