With the finest saloons being found in the executive class, they often come with a premium price tag
balanced by great build quality, but what are our favourites? Let’s take a look…
Audi A4 Saloon – the best saloon all-rounder
The Audi A4 Saloon is a stunning all-rounder. It may not be the best looking car in its class, but its simple
design is both understated and elegant. Once you open the door and settle down into the comfortable
seats you can see that Audi has spared no expense in creating a luxurious and beautifully built cabin.
Everything you need is to hand and looks like it’ll last a lifetime.
On the road, the A4 Saloon further enhances its reputation as one of the best saloon cars available by
being smooth, assured and powerful… whichever engine you decide upon.
If you’re in the market for a reasonably priced saloon that offers rugged good looks and a fantastic
driving experience, then look no further than the Mazda6.
Its distinctive design sets it apart from the more common Ford Mondeo, and it’s just as good to drive
(albeit with a slightly firmer ride than is comfortable for some). Featuring a lightweight chassis and some
of the most economical engines in its class makes the Mazda6 a serious contender for best value saloon
BMW 5 Series Saloon
What list of the best saloon cars would be complete without the BMW 5 Series? Despite there being no
manual gearbox option in the latest 5 Series, the drive is still just as involved as any BMW. We
particularly love the new 520d with the 2.0-litre diesel engine that does 0-60 in 7.5 seconds and still
returns over 50 mpg! It’s a masterpiece of modern diesel design: quiet, refined and full of torque. Yes,
the latest 5 Series is almost the perfect automatic saloon car for the executive market, and we
absolutely love it.
There are loads of other great saloons available – the Skoda Superb, Volkswagen Passat and Mercedes
C-Class to name a few – but we’re confident that these three offer the best for all budgets and driver
requirements. If you think we’ve missed one of the best saloon cars of 2019 off our list, let us know!
