Hansa’s, 72-74 North Street Leeds

A firm favourite with vegetarians, you’ll not find a single meaty dish on the menu here – but don’t let that put you off the amazing Gujarati cuisine they serve. The restaurant has won many awards in its time and has also received glowing reviews from some of the biggest UK food critics, plus every dish is prepared from scratch, so it’s fresh and fantastically full of flavour.

Kendell’s Bistro, 3 St Peter’s Square, Quarry Hill, Leeds LS9 8AH

This beautiful restaurant is perfectly situated for a dazzling dinner before an evening at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, but is also a really romantic spot for a cosy tea for two. With a long list of impressive accolades, you’ll be blown away by the charm of the interior, plus the novel way of reading the blackboard menu – with opera glasses or binoculars! Known for its incredible French fine dining menu and exceptional service, it’s not the cheapest restaurant in Leeds, but it’s arguably the best.

Aagrah, St Peter’s Square, Quarry Hill, Leeds LS9 8AH

Kasmiri cuisine at its best, the family-run Aagrah Group has several restaurants throughout Yorkshire and a reputation earned from over 3 decades of delivering distinguished dishes to their customers. Another great idea for a bite to eat before the theatre, this restaurant has found the perfect balance between great quality and great value. They even have their own outside catering facility and a range of products in the supermarket, based on some of their customers’ favourite dishes.

Safran, 81 Kirkgate, Leeds LS2 7DJ

This is a real hidden gem in the city centre and deserves high praise for its Persian food and extensive menu. It’s on the cheaper end of the price scale but that doesn’t mean you’ll be compromising on quality – in fact, you’d be hard pressed to find another restaurant that serves up such big plates for food for the price! Our top tip is to choose a selection of dishes to share and remember that they are super-sized! It doesn’t offer the most luxurious of surroundings, but it’s quiet, cosy and comfortable.

The Cattle Grid, Waterloo House, Assembly Street, Leeds, LS2 7DE
