Like any bustling modern city, Leeds is always welcoming new start-ups into the fold, and 2017 has a handful of additions in store to the Leeds retail and leisure landscape that have got us excited in the Trafalgar Street car park office. Here’s a quick introduction to them, along with a little preview…
The Dockyard Leeds – The Merrion Centre
With two successful ale houses in Manchester, owner Steve Pilling isn’t resting on his laurels, but instead has brought a new craft beer and burger gastro pub to the heart of Leeds. The growing success of The Dockyard name is reward for Steve’s attention to detail in ensuring that his customers are well cared for and served the very best craft ales from around the world. Also famed for their extraordinary burgers, this new addition to The Merrion Centre has us licking our lips in anticipation.
Liberty Trading – Albion Street
Quirky and fun online retailer, Liberty Trading, is opening its first shop in Albion Street this year. Located in the old Carphone Warehouse store, this promises to be a great addition to the city centre. Selling everything from kid’s clothes and toys to sports equipment, gadgets, games and home decorations, Liberty Trading is likely to be a one-stop emporium you could easily lose a few hours (and pounds) in!
Chilango – Bond Street
Are you bonkers for burritos or go nuts for nachos? Well 2017 is going to be a great year for you then, because Mexican restaurant, Chilagno, is bringing its own take on Mexican fast food to Leeds. Already a roaring success throughout London, Chilango expanded to Manchester last year to wide acclaim. Basing its reputation on express service with a smile, we can’t wait to dive into this place and try those burritos!
Doghouse Bar & Record Store – Kirkgate
The most exciting addition to Leeds in 2017 may well be the Doghouse Bar & Record Stores (Paula’s) on Kirkgate. A specialist shellfish café bar with monthly indie pop-up shops, live music and DJs over the weekend, and a record store above the bar stacked with old school vinyl and good vibes. We may never leave this place once it opens!
These are just a small selection of our favourite new openings in Leeds this year. If you’re particularly looking forward to anything, pop over to Twitter and let us know – we’ll be happy to give them a try!
