With the long school holiday around the corner, you might be wondering how you’re going to keep your little ones occupied for seven weeks.

Fortunately, our city is a great place to live or visit and always puts on plenty of seasonal fun for all the family. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights to help you plan your summer in Leeds.

The Winged Hussars Horse Show – 26th- 28th August, The Royal Armouries, Armouries Drive, LS10 1LT

The Royal Armouries always knows how to put on a spectacular show, and The Winged Hussars are no exception. This crack re-enactment team will take you back to the 17th century where Poland’s elite cavalry unit made their name.

Prepare to be wowed by their exceptional skills with a sabre, lance and pistol this August, in a show no horse lover can miss.

Leeds West Indian Carnival – 27th August, Potternewton Park, Leeds

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017, one of the finest carnivals in Europe will be pushing out all the stops to make this the most spectacular event of the summer. We advise getting a good spot in the park, dressing up in colourful clothing and bringing your dancing shoes, because it’s impossible not to get caught up in the fun!

But that’s not all: visit the carnival website at www.leedscarnival.co.uk/leeds-carnival-50/ to see all the popup events they have in store throughout the summer for this very special occasion.

For All Seasons – Until 28th August, Leeds City Museum, Millenium Square, LS2 8BH

Leeds City Museum has a rich tradition of providing interesting and educational exhibitions for the whole family, and For All Seasons is no different. Running from February through to the end of August, this delightful journey through the seasons features a look at how seasonal clothes have changed through history, a collection of seasonally inspired art, and lots of activities to engage your kids. It’s free too, which makes it about the best value couple of hours you can spend with the family this summer holiday!

As well as these great events, Leeds’ theatres and arenas host a fine selection of summer concerts and plays for all the family – keep an eye on our website where we regularly update you on venues such as the First Direct Arena and the West Yorkshire Playhouse.

As you know, you can leave your car with us when visiting the city centre – giving you a safe place to leave it while you explore and adventure during the summer in Leeds.
