Last time on our blog we gave you the lowdown on our favourite tiny cars for the reluctant car park user – cars that making parking a doddle. This week we’re going to be a little bit silly and look at a few cars that even the best parkers in the world would struggle to fit in a multi-story car park bay! If we ever see one of these down at Trafalgar Street car park, we know that the driver is going to have their work cut out!
Hummer
Developed from a military vehicle named the Humvee, the Hummer gained cult status when Arnold Schwarzenegger fell in love with the original and lobbied hard for a civilian version. We’re not sure why, but maybe Arnie felt that he needed a car that suited his massive frame!
The Hummer was produced in three versions right up to 2009, and in that time it gained a reputation for being very heavy on fuel and very tough to park! The H2 version was over 2m wide and 5m long, making it the kind of car that needs two spaces in the average car park!
Maybach Exelero
Maybach has been quietly making luxury limousines for over a hundred years – all of which would happily sit on this list, but we’re going to introduce you to a spectacular one-off they built in 2004 as a reference vehicle for an ultra-wide tyre design.
This two-door sports coupe sits at 5.8m long and 2.1m wide making it the largest car of its type ever built. We don’t think the current owner would leave it in a car park anyway: it cost rapper Birdman over $8 million to purchase it! Bet he’s not looking for cheap parking in Leeds!
2013 Rolls Royce Phantom Sedan
When we were discussing this topic in the office the car that came up most often as the biggest we’ve ever seen in our car park was the Rolls-Royce Phantom Sedan. This stunning beast can often be seen cruising around with Premier League footballers behind the wheel, but don’t let that put you off! The classic styling and effortless power are coupled with the best ride on wheels. You’d better be a parking god to drive it, though, because it sits at 5.8m long and a fraction under 2m wide.
