Christmas events in Leeds 2015

The countdown to Christmas has begun, and Leeds city centre plays host to some great seasonal events this year. This week we’re going to give you the lowdown on the best that the city has to offer to get you into the Christmas spirit.

Leeds Christkindelmarkt

From the 13th November to the 20th December millennium Square is the home for the most popular market event of the year – the Christkindelmarkt. Now in its 14th year, the German market turns the heart of Leeds into a magical German wonderland full of chalets and traditional fair rides. Buy traditional and handmade toys and gifts, scarves, hats and gloves, or simply enjoy the delicious stollen and other authentic German foods and drinks.

With crafts and pop-up events for the kids on a Sunday morning, the market is a great place to shop for Christmas, and entertain the family at the same time.

A night at the pantomime

Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without a night out at the panto, and Leeds has a great choice this year. Aladdin, featuring Lee Brennan from 911, is playing at the Carriageworks theatre in Millennium Square, but for something with a little more energy, why don’t you check out The Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto playing at Leeds City Varieties in Swan Street? Pantomime legend, Peter Rowe, has worked his magic on Babes in the Wood by combining the usual cheesy laughs with rock and roll hits from the 50s, 60s and 70s to create a barn-storming show for the whole family.

The reindeer trail

Returning to Leeds this year is the magical reindeer trail – a firm favourite with kids and a great way to keep them occupied while you drag them around the shops. Download the trail map from the ww.visitleeds.co.uk website and see how many of the reindeer statues you and your children can find as you shop. There are ten to discover scattered around the city’s shopping centres, but if your kids are lucky, they might see the real Santa and his real reindeers when they visit the Merrion Centre and Kirkgate Market every Saturday and Sunday through December!

The Night Before Christmas – Courtyard Theatre

The Courtyard Theatre at the West Yorkshire Playhouse is the venue for this entertaining and thought-provoking play that runs from now to the New Year. Despite losing her Christmas spirit, Carol soon finds herself in an adventure with friendly elves and a race against time to find Santa and his sleigh.

Tickets available through the Yorkshire Playhouse.

Of course, every day is Christmas for us at Trafalgar Street Car Park, because we get to play Santa’s helper and look after your car while you shop – so why not drop it with us and go enjoy yourself at one of the fab Christmas events in Leeds we’ve listed above?!
