The best estate cars of 2019

In a world where SUVs and MPVs are increasingly popular, the best estate cars are fighting back and
proving that there’s room in the market for this classic shape. The finest estates offer space in
abundance, comfort and the driveability of a saloon – all of which makes them perfect for a large family
or business person on the road.

The classic estate – Volvo V90 Estate

Every list of estate cars should include a Volvo, right? The V90 follows on in the company’s fine tradition
of developing reliable, safe and well-built cars that inspire confidence. And while the V90 isn’t the best
driver’s car in its class, its classy interior has bucket loads of space, and you get plenty of kit for your
money – all of which makes it well worth a look if you’re in the market for an estate in 2019.

Skoda Superb Estate

If you’re buying an estate for maximum boot space, the Skoda Superb is the car for you. With almost
2000 litres of space (660 in the boot alone), the Superb puts many of the best estate cars to shame, but
it’s no one-trick-pony… The Skoda drives well, is beautifully built, well-equipped, and it starts at about
£22,000!

Ford Mondeo Estate

The Mondeo has always been the ‘go-to’ driver’s estate car, and the latest model is no different.
Constantly updated to keep up with the crowd, the Mondeo has grown into a car that really can
compete with the big boys – here’s looking at you, Audi and BMW. Styling and interior quality are both
improved over the previous model, and with a good range of engines, there’s a model for every budget.

Audi A6 Avant

The A6 Avant is the estate car to choose if effortless cruising is your thing. The usual Audi build-quality is
obvious when you sit behind the wheel, and this is backed up with loads of features and space –

including enough headspace for even the tallest driver. There are estates with bigger boots, but none of
its competitors provide as much comfort and room for your passengers – all of which makes it the
classiest car in our list.

To be honest, we were surprised to see how competitive this sector still is, but the huge range on offer
shows that the best estate cars on the road can still give the SUVs and MPVs a run for their money!
