The city of Leeds comes to life over the summer, largely because it plays host to a succession of wonderfully entertaining events in Millennium Square.

Over the years we’ve seen stars of stage, screen and the world of music provide some memorable performances, and this year is no different – so let’s dive in and pick our highlights for summer 2018.

Plan B – Millennium Square, Leeds, LS1 1UR – 20th July 

At the forefront of the new wave of UK hip-hop, Plan B has established himself as an innovative artist who’s not afraid to mix the soul music of his roots with his lyrically explosive brand of rap. His fourteen date tour brings him the Leeds this July for a show that promises to be entertaining and uncompromising in equal measure.

Tony Hadley – Millennium Square – 21st July

If you’re looking for events in Millennium Square that conjure up fab memories from yesteryear, a night in the company of Tony Hadley might be more up your street. The former Spandau Ballet frontman has lost none of his impressive vocal prowess, and will be wowing the audience here on 21st July with a mixture of his solo material and old Spandau Ballet classics.

The Pretenders & special guests – Millennium Square – 3rd August

Even though The Pretenders are celebrating 40 years in the business in 2019, they’re showing little sign of slowing down, with sixteen tour dates planned this year. Chrissie and the boys may not have the same youthful energy as in their 80s heyday, but they’re still able to put on a great show, and you can be sure that you’ll hear all the old hits like ‘Brass in Pocket’ and ‘Back on the Chain Gang’.

Simple Minds & KT Tunstall – Millennium Square – 11th August

Another of the 80s finest bands, Simple Minds, have recently reformed and announced tour dates for the summer. Fortunately, they’ve decided to stop off at Millennium Square to delight their fans with a show that promises to be spectacular. Teaming up with the sublime KT Tunstall adds to the star quality on offer and makes it a ‘must see’ for music lovers in Leeds.
